It all started back in the 90's. I've always been an IT guy (well, after I was a bag boy, cashier, burger flipper, and a long stint managing a newspaper), but in the latter part of the 90's I started riding motorcycles.
This is how the Easy PHP Calendar was born.
I was building a web site for our local riders and needed a calendar to post our events. You know, the big and bad biker events like... going to the ice cream shop or the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet in the next town over.
Well, I never found a calendar I liked, so I broke out a book, sat down in front of a computer, taught myself how to program and wrote a simple event script for our club. This was Version 1.
Shortly afterwards, I landed a job with a vacation rentals company as their IT/web guy. I adapted the calendar to show when the houses were booked. This was Version 2. Later, after much refining, this turned into Version 3, then 4, and the rest is history.
In the early days, the calendar really didn't have a set name or a steady domain name (although I own most of the old ones still today). We were esscripts.com, gopapa.com, panhandleparadise.com, easilysimplecalendar.com and today (and since 2005) we are EasyPHPCalendar.com. For some fun, hit up those addresses on the WayBackMachine web site. Wow, those were the days.
For a little bit more fun, go to our forums and start at the end of the releases thread and read it forward 'til today (I'll wait right here for you to finish)... Yep, I've been at this a long time.
Now that you're finished reading all of that, here we are today. I'm still toiling away at the keyboard, working to make your ideas into something we can all use and be proud of.
Easy PHP Calendar 7 was released in early 2012. After 12+ years, we are still going strong. |
