Made this project better by using a proper calendar, EPC is awesome
This is the Church website i designed within wordpress.

The homepage has mini calendar customised with 10x event listing (removing old events)
The blog just copies this template as a widget (not officially a widget)
Each church has a calendar catagory and uses the catagory to display specific church related events. eg:
