Hurricane Katrina is (inconveniently) projected to hit us dead on... (See attached image).

Looks like Vero Beach got lucky this time and I'm hoping and praying that Katrina weakens before heading up north in your direction, Brian.

Still doesn't look too good for us here. Once it gets back into the Gulf, we'll see if it makes that sharp turn they're predicting...

Brian,

Just take care of yourself and your family. We will make do until you get back.
Best wishes.

John

Looks like it didn't take that tight turn, and we may be out of the direct path. But, the east side is the worst as far as the storm and surge is concerned and now we're sitting right there...

Even though we're pretty far from the current track of eye of the storm, the island where I work has been issued a mandatory evacuation. May not be going to my "day job" tomorrow (Monday).

We were far from Dennis too, but again, on the East side. It was the worst storm surge (coastal flooding) anyone could remember.

The winds have picked up and the sky is gray. No heavy rains, but a few hard showers this afternoon.

When you get a chance, Brian, could you please update us on your post-Katrina status? We know you escaped a direct hit, thankfully, but you were on the east side and am concerned that you may be dealing with the effects of a storm surge in your area.

We were very fortunate. We had some high-sustained winds and not much rain. Some low-lying areas were affected by storm surge but no damage that I am aware of. Considering that this area is still suffering greatly from the destruction of Dennis, again, we were very fortunate and could not have taken another blow this soon.
