htaccess with EPCalendar

I have installed EPCalendar in a protected space with a .htaccess file.
The access to the folder is possible if the index.php file is'nt in the folder, but if the index.php file is in the folder, the access is refused.
I want to protect the access to the calendar. How can I do ?

What happens when "access is refused"? Do you see an error?

Have you successfully protected other directories this way?

It may be a problem with your server setup. You web host provider may be best at helping you with this...

(This is not a calendar problem).
