hello! newbie here with a bonehead question. I want to install EPC on Joomla.

Can I install EPC as a Joomla module or component? I don't know any other way to install, and don't know PHP, and don't Linux. Alll I know how to do is go to the Joomla Installer, point to a .zip file and click the Upload/Install button. If I do that, will it install EPC?

Thanks.

dash,

You can use EPC in Joomla, and it really isn't all that hard. You will find a module that was written for Mambo (but I have had it work with Joomla) in the Mambo Integration board of this forum.

I have EPC nicely integrated into my site. I don't however use the module since it doesn't really meet the needs of what I wanted in my site. Instead, I just made version pages, displaying the calendar how I wanted it to look, and then used "wrapper" in Joomla to load the calendar page. It is very simple.

You do not have to "learn" php...I really don't know any php to save my life. However, you do have to "write" a few php pages. But you don't even have to write them from scratch. You can use the demo.php of EPC as is, or modify it to how you want it to look. The docs with EPC are excellent to show you how to customize the calendar views to your liking.

There is a thread on how to use wrapper that might be helpful.
http://www.easyphpcalendar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4160

Feel free to ask if you have questions. You might want to post them in the Mambo Integration board.

(And Brian, you might want to change the name from Mambo Integration to Mambo/Joomla Integration.)

You can see EPC hard at work at my Joomla site at http://pediatricsatqueens.ca You will see a short list on the home page, titled under "Today's Rounds and Cpnferences." You will also see other views but clicking on "Rounds and Conferences" on the Resources menu.

Just a follow up to my first post...I don't think I really answered your question.

You have to install EPC outside of Joomla. You do the same method as the EPC documentation tells you. In order to use the Mambo/Joomla module that is provided here, you need to install the EPC files in a subdirectory called "calendar" off your Joomla module directory

ie:
/<joomla directory>/modules/calendar

My original answer was how to integrate EPC into Joomla once you have it successfully installed.

If you follow the instructions on how to install EPC in Mambo, it works. (The thread is in the Mambo Integration forum).

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to post in the Mambo forum and I'll try to answer as quickly as possible.

I saw this in the forum, but my permissions are 644. This is what I get in the left corner where the calendar is supposed to be displayed. The install into joomla stated it was successful.

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'modules/calendar/calendar.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /homepages/22/d162348080/htdocs/life/Joomla/modules/mod_escal.php on line 3

Thanks in advance.

I doubt that this error is caused by permissions issue. This sounds more like either the calendar wasn't installed at the right location, or there was some corruption in the upload.

Can you elaborate a bit? How do I check if it was installed in the right place? Here's the directory structure.
I've got a site called life.
Under that are folders joomla and ioncube
Under joomla is the calendar directory.
I installed mod_escal
I didn't understand what the printable.zip file was, so haven't done anything with that yet.

I'm getting around the backend just fine (setup manager, etc.), so wouldn't that indicate that the upload was successful?

So here's the thing, I'm lost. I've seen on here that someone (maybe you) is offering to upload things. Am I correct on that point? I REALLY want to buy this thing and show it to my client. I'm absolutely exhausted with trying to get things to work. Not just with the calendar, the whole CMS, open source thing in a nutshell. I'd like to get it working with some online help here, but if after a few suggestions things aren't working can someone do it for me? I HATE to go that route for something I'm buying. I really want to KNOW how to do things for the "next" time I need this calendar (which I've already got another client waiting).

Thanks so much for your help in advance. I have to comment that you guys are really on the money for support. I can't believe the response, except when my emails got bounced yesterday. I can't believe that was on your side though. So please, keep the support coming.
