Can PHP calendar be changed to blend into my site, i.e. style and colour etc.etc.

Sure! By using the options in the Setup Manager and editing a CSS file, the sizes, colors, fonts and more can be easily changed to match your existing web site. :)

I am currently playing with the trial on my site and I have modified the ess.css and the system.css and I am not seeing the color changes. It is very well that I am doing something wrong. Am I even close or is there something I am totally missing here.

There are two files that you can edit. The one in the default is the one you want to edit to change the integrated calendar (not the one in the Event Manager).

You may need to close and restart (and possibly clear it's cache) before you'll see the changes. (I don't have this problem with FireFox. It's mostly and IE thing.)
