replacing category color with bullet or dash

In TOC mode is there a way to remove the block of color indicating the category and replace it with a bullet point? I know I could make the color white and then add the bullet point when I make the description but the space for the block of color will still be present and look a little funny.

This isn't possible in Version 6. :(

How do you resize the color block? What I see on my calendar is a large color block that covers the numbers for the day of the calendar in TOC mode.
