553 could not determine cwdir

firstly, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, i did have a quick look, but couldnt find it on here!

anyways...

When installing, im at the remote server details page, and i get the message

unable to create a folder on the FTP server, please check the FTP user has write permissions for the target folder

553 could not determine cwdir: no such file or directory

please check settings and try again

I have tried leaving the create install folder in box blank, i have browsed to where i want it, everything, i cant get it to install.

I also tried manual install, forced binary upload etc, and this failed on the ion installation...same problems.

is it the server? it is a local government server, but i know of another school that also uses it and it works on there!

any ideas?!?!?!?!
