Is it possible to have a link i the short descrition field.

I currently use on the onmouseover option, but ot really concerned about losing this if need be.

I thought i saw this in a previous post a while ago, but canot fid it now

You can, but it's not automatically converted. You'd need to use a a href link (standard HTML) to create the link.
