ive been screwed around by ipowerweb on 1 domain hosting package for years - why i choose to stay with them is something i dont know.

here's my case and scenario:

my (www.currentdomain.com (http://www.currentdomain.com)) current domain name is hosted on hostxxA (where xxA replaces the real name). on this host, zend optimizer 2.5.5 was loaded for approx 2 years, then sometime last week, the host was downgraded to 2.5.1. ipowerweb will not move me to another server for another few weeks, nor will they revert/restore data from previous backup that has 2.5.5 (zend) loaded.

my only option is to wait it our or, move the easyphpcalendar (database and files) to another host which means a different domain name as well.

i own another domain name, which also has hosting with ipowerweb, but this server has been stable for years.

how can i backup what i have now on www.currentdomain.com (http://www.currentdomain.com) (hostxxA) and move my entire calendar to lets say www.newdomain.com (http://www.newdomain.com) (hostxxB) ?

i tried to install and reset license key, but i missed something along the lines of databases, database users, and etc.,

can i get some help ?

thank you easyphpcalenar! :) you guys/girls are the best !

It is probably easier to just do a clean install, and then restore the few files that would have been modified. You will need to somehow get a backup of the calendar table (default: epc_calendar), your config.inc.php. You will need to have your licence reset as your IP and hostname will be changing. The calendar.php file should be updated automatically once you login to the Setup Manage, so you shouldn't need to backup that one. Also transfer any themes or templates that you've created/modified.

That should be it.

PS: Changing web host does not mean loosing your domain name. If you're registered as the domain's administrative contact, you can contact the registrar and change it to a different host. If IPowerWeb is listed as the owner, they will have to give you permission first, then you can contact the registrar. It might end up being a long battle, but sometimes your new host will help you regain control of your domain name in order to gain your business.

how about this scenario ?

since i know zend optimizer 2.5.5 is not loaded on my host anymore, but 2.5.10 is and ioncubeloader is also loaded, can i just switch from ion to zend and not lose any database data ?

im not too familiar with backups and restore, i tried to backup my x_cal database and restore on my other host (domain name), but it didnt not restore, it says denied.

i ran the testscripton my current host (which is only running zend 2.5.10) and the ioncube loader portion works, just not the zend.

do you have instructions on how i can switch from zend to ion without losing any calendar data on my database ?

Please advise. - thank you

You can follow the regular upgrade instructions from the Online Documentation (http://docs.easyphpcalendar.com/) and just change which version you're using.

You'll need to save your original config.inc.php, calendar.php and licence.php. Also backup any files you've modified. Just use an FTP program and save them on your computer. Then delete (or rename) the folder, then install the new version using the auto-installer. Restore the files and test it out.

got it . so if i save config.inc.php and rename the current folder, then run installation, do i restore all files back into the new ion-installation on my server ?
is there a list somewhere that can show me which files to restore ?

also - i requested for a license key reset, i havent heard anything back from anyone on that. i may just keep everything on my original server, but hope that the ioncube loader will suffice.

please advise - thanks for your help!

The files you need to back up and restore are detailed in the Upgrade section of the instructions. (See my sig for a link). :)

There are no outstanding license key reset requests. It should have been processed earlier today.

can you close this post ?

all is well, i am back and running on my current host, no move was performed.

instead i am no longer using the zend optimizer aspect, instead just the ion version.

copied all the files over, after new installation of ion version and all is well.

thanks for the great support and help! you guys are the best!
