View Full Version : Customized Fields?

Hi, Friends,

I am looking to purchase easyPHPcalendar for our church website. Does this program support customized fields that can accompany a particular event? For instance, if I wish to place a graphic along side the Event Title, as far as I can tell, I must insert html code in the Event Title Line. This really interrupts the ability to format it for different views. For example, on the Calendar, I would like the graphic; for the home page, I would like just the event title, date, time and teacher (if the event is a class); for the event description page, I would like a larger graphic, placed differently than in the calendar. Also, as you see, we have teachers for some events, musicians and speakers for others. It would be nice to independently format these fields with the different calendar views.

Right now, I have used one of the category fields for teachers. (It seems to always display with a ; [colon] in front of the data.) But I also have speakers, musicians, graphics which I would also like to individually call on from a field and format according to the type of calendar display.

Is this possible, or must they all be included in the description of the event field?

Thank you,
Rev. Marcus

You can have customized categories and selections under them, but not a blank custom field.

I'm not sure I completely understand how you want events to display, but you can use the List Mode and create/modify your own templates to display event information in many customized ways which may do what you need.

As far as I can tell, these are the following database fields which can be accessed to be formatted in a variety of ways:

startDate Julian Day number of the start date
endDate Julian Day number of the end date
startTime Time event starts in 24HR format
endTime Time event ends in 24HR format
type Whether is a single, reoccurring or floating event
repeat For repeating events - how often it repeats
title Title
descr Description
days Number of days an event lasts
stop Number of time an event occurs
month For floating - month event starts
weekDay For floating - week day event occurs
weekNumber For floating - week number event starts
category The categorie(s) assigned to the event

A) I would like to format an image in a variety of ways depending on if it is a pop-up box, in the calendar itself or not use it at all if it in a list mode. From my understanding, If I place it in the description -- It will appear the same depending on how [descr] is formatted regardless of the viewing mode -- calendar, list, pop-up.

But I would like to decide whether it will appear and how it will appear in each.

For instance, in the TOC calendar view, I would like the image to appear with the event Title, but not appear in the event Title in the list mode.

The cleanest way I can conceive of doing this is having a field for image and calling that field and formatting it differently for each view.

B) Likewise, If there were a field for Teacher, I could manipulate this separately from the descriptor field. Thus for classes, I could have the teachers prominently displayed independently from the description!

The closest workaround I can see, is to treat teacher as a category and call the category field forward for formatting.

I hope this explicates my dilemma more clearly. Do you have or plan in the future (vers 7) to have customizable fields which can manipulated independently from the [title] and [descrip] fields?

If not, is there a way I can display the category without having it actually name the title and a colon and then the actual data? I would just like the actual data in the drop-down list to show.

Thanks,
Rev. Marcus

There's not a way "out of the box" to do what you want. It would probably take a considerable amount of custom programming to accomplish it.

Can you give me the URL with an example of what you see now?
