View Full Version : Individual event listings

I have the standard calendar installed on two websites. In addition to a main page with all events listed, I would like people to be able to click on individual event pages so each event gets indexed in Google. The popups are nice, but they don't do anything for SEO and event indexing in Google. Is there a way to do this?

Also, because someone can click the next month and it shows a url like http://www.domainname.com/index.php?mo=8&yr=2009, it's not so good for SEO. What can I enter into my robots file to prevent my home page from being indexed in Google and being penalized for duplicate content?

Thanks!

There isn't a built-in feature to do what you're asking. You may be able to use the List Mode or Blog mode to create something for your SEO, but I'm not sure how events will help you there.

I think you'll need a NO FOLLOW in the header of your page to stop the indexing of the page(s). FWIW, I've personally not seen a site penalized for using the calendar. For example, search Google for PHP CALENDAR. We come up second and I don't do anything to keep Google from indexing the pages. And we have many pages with calendars on them.

Just as an example, I like how each Yelp event has its own page, so the event can be indexed. The way I have it set up, it's just a page with all events. If each event gets a page, then it will be indexed, like Yelp:

BTW, can you send me an example of blog mode?

There should be an example of the Blog mode in your calendar directory, demoBLOG.php.
