View Full Version : Moving site (including calendar) to a new server
Hi,
Browsing through the forums part of my question was answered but to get the full picture someone from support can hopefully answer my question in full.
We are in the process of moving our site to a new server, this includes moving the easyPhpCalendar (we are currently running 6.3.24, upgrades will take place after the move has been done and proofed to be working properly).
I am comfortable with PHP/MySql and anything surrounding it, but what exactly is the process of moving the calendar? Or better, what is the preferrered process of moving the calendar to a new server (with a different path structure on the server).
Many thanx!
Bob

Copy all of the calendar files (in binary mode) to the new server. Update the paths on the new server (see the Paths FAQ in my signature). Connect to the database.
Hi Brian,
Thanx you for the quick answer, sounds simple, tried that and bumped into another issue, one that I do not have experience with. When I try to access my page that implements the calender I get the following message:
The file /[my server path]/calendar/functions/functions.inc.php has been encoded with the ionCube PHP Encoder and requires the free ioncube_loader_lin_5.1.so ionCube PHP Loader to be installed.
As added info: We are moving from shared hosting to a (virtual private) server.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanx again!

You'll need to get your new host to install the ionCube loader or allow run-time loading.
both sound ok, run-time loading sounds as if you do not need ioncube? I can't find anything about that option in the docs (http://docs.easyphpcalendar.com/).
Could you point me in the right direction for some information on that?
Many thanx!

Run-time loading means that the server will let the script load it's own ionCube loader when it runs. Otherwise, the loader will need to be installed at the server lever. Either way, your host will need to make this happen.

I'm also moving my site with calendar to a new host.
I've installed the calendar at the new spot and it is working fine, though in expired trial mode.
Is there a best practice for obtaining the license at the new space that will minimize the downtime when the domain name is moving or moved?
Thanks,
Greg

Just follow the instructions after entering your order number at the new location.

The process eventually leads to a 'reset license key' page. If I proceed with this before the domain name is moved, will the current site become disabled?
Thanks,
Greg
Hi Brian,
Happy new year! :) Sorry for the late reply, was busy celebrating :)
I understand what you'r saying, however, we are our own host at the moment. We have no need for ionCube (and don't expect to need it in the near future). Obtaining a license just to run the calender is a bit of an overkill.
Are there any other options to run the calender?
Thanx again!
Bob

There is no license. Just install the loader. It's all free.
*sigh* I was looking throught a haze of new year celebration I guess... Found it, thanx!

I'm quoting myself here to re-introduce my question. It looks like I probably should have started this line of questioning in its own thread instead of creeping into someone else's conversation.

The license allows you to only run one full copy at a time on one server. You can run the new server in a trial mode and after the DNS changes, request the new license key then (and remove the calendar from the old server).
