Setting amount of displayed text in list mode

Can I set the amount of the description to display with a link to read more?

For example, I have a list of events on the left side of the page, but I want to only display a summary of the text, not the full amount and include a more link to a page.

List Mode will always display all of the description text.

So there is no work around to this? Is there another mode that will allow it?

No one has asked to do this (that I can recall), so it's never been added as a feature. You may want to add this to the Feature Requests forum.

I'm looking for a feature like this as well. Basically I want a short list on the home page and some of my event descriptions can be long which will create a long list.

You can remove the [descr] area from the template and that will remove the long description from the list.
