Default V6 to V7 Upgrade Beta Script Procedures

I originally was following the procedure of deleting the install directory from the unzipped V7 package and overwriting everything in the calendar directory on my server. I included the convert folder and contents in the upload.

When I ran convert.php it indicated that I should have installed V7 in a new directory (after first having renamed the V6 directory).

Oops, I was already down the former path.

I re-installed V6 but am now pondering the proper procedure to get V7 installed, up and running.

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

1) Rename the version 6 calendar directory to calendar6.

2) Upload Version 7 plus the converter to a new directory named calendar.

3) Run V7 install.

4) Run converter.

5) Remove converter directory and test events in V7 Event Manager.

6) Remove Version 6.

7) Enjoy!

Thank you, Brian, for the quick and straightforward reply. My one residual question is whether the V7 installation might have any effect on the mySQL database. Do I establish those connections prior to running convert.php? I assume that V& will, in fact, utilize the pre-existing database.

You can use the same database, but change the database prefix on the first page of the V7 installation from epc to something like epc7 (Version 6 uses epc by default).

Sorry if I'm fussing over a non-issue, Brian. Just wanting to be sure before I act.

If I change the database prefix for V7 will that result in a new table being created or will the old table be give the new prefix and, therefore, would all the existing events still be visible in V7? That is my desired outcome.

Thanks again for your help.

Changing the database prefix will create a new database table for Version 7. The converter will then convert the events from Version 6 into Version 7.

The converter needs to be run on a brand new install of Version 7. If you already added events, they will be deleted before importing.

I'm beginning to think I'm losing it.

I have followed all the steps but when, in my browser, I enter the full path to the V7 install/index.php file, the browser notes that it is unable to display the page. Tried both IE and Firefox. Have set permissions on calendar.php, license.php and config.inc.php.new files.

I'm wondering if my problem can be addressed from my end or whether I would need to contact my ISP support. Do I need to completely turn off my firewall to run these files?

Thanks in advance for any further help you can offer.

Version 7 does not have a license.php file and no special permissions are required.

If you want, open a support ticket and I can upload the files for you.

Ah, well, I saw a license.php file in the Install directory, but perhaps that one doesn't count.

As far as I know, the files have been correctly uploaded in binary form and I see them there on the server where they should be.

Currently I have gone back to a running version of V6 in a ../kalendar/calendar/calendar.php setup on our website. Beside it is ../kalendar/calendar7/calendar.php. When I attempt to install, I change the currently operating directory to /calendar6/ and the new one to /calendar/.

I point to our root/kalendar/calendar/install/index.php to try to initiate the installation, but fail to get a displayed page, just an unable to display the page message.

If I proceed to a ticket, what information would you need in order to be able to install the program on our server? An access username? password?

Thanks again.
