An (apparent) idiot needs help installing

Update -- I did it!!! Yea!!! It's working now... very happy and just purchased the real thing. It took 4 hours to install but at least it's done! Next time it will be easier.

OK... I guess I'm a lot dumber than the rest of you... I'm trying to use the trial version and can't get past the Details page. I'm not an advanced user and I have no clue what to do next. The demo displays (http://www.wbalightning.com/calendar/demo.php) but when I try to log in to the events manager I get the following error message:
Configuration Error!

Please configure a database connection using the Setup Manager before using the Events Administrator

What is this? I don't use or write databases and I have no clue where to go from here. Can anyone help? I guess I need step-by-step, idiot-proof instructions, which I cannot find on the site (by the way, I've been messing with this, cruising the forums and trying different things, for about 3 hours so far...) Thanks!
