Default Problems Getting Started

I got the free version to work on my server but I am having problems getting my 5.4 version to install correctly. It is looping just as described by in the Forum when I try to create my username and password and it keeps looping. There was a post about running out of disk space and then a post about temp folder. I am 100% that it is not a disk space issue and there was not enough information provided about the temp folder issue. Can you please help me get this configured and running on my site. I have other PHP/MYSQL applications installed and they work just fine.

Thanks,
Travis

do you have any other applications running with sessions on your server? And can you provide a link to your site? (You can PM it if you want)

Actually, read this post... http://www.easilysimplecalendar.com/...ead.php?t=2376

Looks like the exact same thing as all the others that had that issue.

Already Read it--- did not help

well i'm pretty sure it's at the root of your virtual host... but then again you confirmed that you are using sessions successfully with a different product.

Now that I re-read your first post, you're not looping at the same place as others. The behaviour you're describing seems to be from having the permissions set wrong on the two files... Can you confirm that you did change the permissions to 646 for them?

Default Used CHMOD

Yes I used CHmod to change the files to 6rw -4r -6rw. This is correct isn't it?

Could you provide me with a URL to your installation and intended username/password by PM?

Hello -

I just purchased version 5.4 a couple of days for the website, http://www.tas-online.org, I am setting up.

I am also having the same issue with the looped login. I enter my initial username and password, click save and I am presented with the same login again.

I've doubled checked the file permissions on showCalendar.php and config.inc.php, and the are both 646. I'm not sure how to check on the sessions which I saw in another post here.

Let me know when you've read this and I'll PM you with any other information you may need. Thank you.

File permissions won't cause this issue. It is caused by PHP sessions on your server.

Do you host with Yahoo? Do you have free space on your server for your account? Are you using PHP Version 4.1.0 or greater?

Hi Brian -

I'm not with Yahoo. My web hosting is hostsave.com.

Their website FAQ states they support PHP 4 but I have requested some clarification on the exact version. I have just under 1000MB of space.

Please see the post below. It will give you instructions that will help you determine what version of PHP is on your host's server.

Okay -

I ran your script and also received an email from hostsave tech support confirming that the server is running PHP 4.0.6.

I have a heavy sinking feeling on all this because of all the research I did on the web your calendar was most suited to our societies needs. I have sent an email back to hostsave techsupport asking if they'll be upgrading to a later version of PHP but I'm not holding out for much hope.

I guess I am SOL?

(any chance of a refund if I can't use your calendar?)

I received a response from hostsave.com and they have no plans to upgrade to a more recent version of PHP. They direct me to a partner web hosting company which is considerably more expensive.

I'll wait for your response but it looks like I am out of the picture if the version of PHP is critical.

The calendar script must run on PHP Version 4.1.0 or greater. Most hosts should support this as it has been out for a while now and is more secure than earlier versions.

The hosting company that this calendar site is hosted on starts at only $9.95/mo. Take a look at www.iHostParadise.com to see all of the details. Please send me a PM if you have any questions.

PHP sessions on Hostsave.com

Lightbulb PHP sessions on Hostsave.com

I know that this may be a bit late for your site, but I just noticed this thread searching the web.

For hostsave.com, you need to realize it is a shared (clustered) system, that requires php sessions to be placed in a directory not /tmp, as that is not shared across the entire cluster.

There is an example of how to accomplish this located at:

http://hs.nauticaltech.com/ini_set/

I hope this helps you out. As well as any others.

Hey mf_aff, could you go into a little more detail regarding how one sets up the calendar on a clustered server set up, please? I would like to use the calendar, and I know it will be set up on a server cluster.

Tnx

This thread is close to 1½ years old. Try the demo on your server cluster and if you run into any problems, let us know. We'll troubleshoot your particular issues at that time.
