Exclamation Possible Hurricane Evacuation

Anyone that watches the Weather Channel in the US has heard the name Apalachicola often followed by tropical storm or hurricane. Even though there are only about 5,000 residents in this small town, it is the Southern-most point in Northwest Florida in the Gulf of Mexico and is often used as a reference point for these types of storms.

Tropical storm (Bonnie) is forecast to hit the Apalachicola area some time tomorrow. Apalachicola happens to be where I am located. (I also work on St. George Island which is under a voluntary evacuation at the time of this post...)

Because of this storm (and Charley afterwards), it may be possible that I lose power for an indeterminable about of time. However, this web site and all of the ordering systems will work as expected since my server is located away from this area (for this very reason).

I'll see you on the other side of the storm...

Funny you should mention Apalachicola. I use to visit a little place called the FloriBama.

Heh, I remember FloriBama. I used to have a condo in Perdido Key a while back before a hurricane took over ownership. Found one of the sliding glass doors (Mostly just the framing, anyway) in a back bedroom. That must've been... 10 or 12 years ago now.

I'm okay here. We had Bonnie to hit here and it wasn't a big threat. Charley however, hit further South and was much more devestating.

Hey Brian, how is Frances going to affect you? Are you in its path? If you are, stay safe and dry!

Good luck to ya!

I think we'll be fine here in the NW side of Florida. The organization of the storm appears to be weakening and I really don't expect any more than some rain and gusty wind by Monday afternoon. (knock on wood).

Well, my area has just been put under a hurricane warning and some of the surrounding counties have initiated mandatory evacuations. Our emergency management personnel will be meeting within in the hour. I'm expecting mandatory evacuations to be placed for this area too.

I will stay around as long as I can, but I may not be answering questions in the forum as fast as usual.
