change background color of today's date

I'm pretty good with CSS (I think so anyway), but this has me confused. I want to change the background color of todays date. The default style sheet has the text bold which it is and the background color pink which it is not. It seems the value for s2 is overriding the pink background as sometimes I see a flash of pink.
I would like to make the background color of today's date something other than the default date (non event) dates (s2).

I forgot to mention that I am using version 5.5.

If today has an event but you use a different color to mark the background for today, won't that overwrite the background marking of events?
