Default Event Creation - Flat File

Is there a way to create a flat file of events (I'm talking hundreds) outside of the system? I tried to do this but the script keeps reporting that my flat file is corrupted.

My dilema is that if I purchase ESC and implement a calendar for the local school district I'm going to have hundreds of events to enter...and I'd like to just parse them from a file using PERL and build my initial events file that way.

I suppose I could switch to MySQL and attempt to bulk load data there via queries...but I'd rather not.

As long as the file is in the correct format, you should be able to create your own text file. This will be very easy for single occurring events, but more difficult for multiple recurring events.

So, I wonder where I fouled up on my first attempt?

Any chance that the format is documented somewhere so that I can be sure to get it right? I think I figured out the record format earlier (at least for single events...as are all of mine) but obviously made a mistake...maybe with carriage control or uploading the file in ASCII mode?

There is no documentation since this hasn't come up before. To see the correct format, start a new database and add two single events then view the file.

You should see and id number, start date, end date, title, description and several blanks "||" and each entry ends with "-||-". The trial also has a code specific to each event, and will not be required in the paid version (it will be blank ||).

Just an FYI... I was able to create a flat file in the proper format (purchased version file is much easier to deal with than that free version). I was even able to add CR/LF carriage control to the end of each record to make the file more readable...it still works.

You can see the outcome in the calendar at www.tamatoledo.org/STC.

Next step...a quick little PERL script to parse my text file and generate a new events flat file.
