Parse error in /escal/admin/index.php

I've set this up successfully before for one site, but this second time around I'm able to edit the settings, but going to /escal/admin/ brings up this error:

Parse error: parse error, expecting `','' or `';'' in /home/oasisofh/public_html/urban-school-of-evangelism/escal/admin/index.php on line 1

I've reuploaded the admin files (in ASCII), changed permissions on /database to 777, using PHP V4.3.4... Can you help please?

The calendar seems to be appearing fine on the webpages, but I can't enter the admin page.

That sound like an uploading issue because it seems the file may be corrupt. Did you modify the file?

Can you PM me FTP access to your server and I can take a look.
