If it's on your own computer, just download the zip file, uncompress it and move the calendar directory to root of your web files.

All the info you require for setting up the software properly is in the documenation which is available at http://docs.easyphpcalendar.com/

If you're having problems with the auto-installer, download the zip version and upload it yourself using a full-fledged FTP program following the instructions in the docs.

Support can only be provided via the use of tickets, which Brian will respond to. I do offer email support when Brian is unavailable (at any other time, that email remains unchecked).

I've just re-read this whole thread, and it struck me... Do you by any chance have a firewall enabled on your computer? Or maybe have WinXP SP2 and responded to block the program from connecting to the internet? If either of these are true, then that is the reason why it times out. Your firewall would either have to be disabled (not recommended) or an exception be made for the auto-installer to have access to the net.
