Default upgrading to new version

Hi Brian:

I have the latest version and getting ready to upgrade. A couple questions though.

1. Does the active calendar need to be turned off somehow, disabled while upgrading and if so how??

2. what files are absolutely necessary to keep before over-writing the old files with the new ones?

3. where can i find the documentation to read before upgrading?
