Add new event category filter

I am looking for a way to filter/limit the category input of the Add New Event page.

Suppose I currently have 3 categories, I use the $showCat to limit the view to category number 1. (i.e. $showCat="1")

To add an event the calendar manager logs in to the Event Manager which is also limited with the $showCat="1" variable and is presented with just the entries of their calendar. The calendar manager clicks on Add Event and gets to the Add New Event page. I want the filter/limit the category input of the Add New Event page to just the chosen category. (category 1 only)

This was tested, and confirmed as not working. The Event Manager disregards the $showCat entries.

As the Event Manager's code is in the protected code area, it is not modifiable. And since V6 is in the feature-freeze phase, it is unlikely that this feature will be made available. Version 7 implements a completely different user system that will probably allow for such a situation.
